Secondary Scleral-Fixated Intraocular Lens In An Aphakic Eye Following Capsular Rupture: A Case Report
Journal Title: Malla Reddy Medical College For Women Journal Of Medical Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
When capsular rupture occurs during cataract surgery, leading to vitreous loss; it may compromise the prospects of a routine intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. In this situation of inadequate capsular support, the alternative options include scleral-fixation, iris-fixation or placement of IOL in the anterior chamber.A 60 years old female patient presented with diminution of vision in her left eye for 6 months. On examination, the visual acuity was counting fingers (CF) in right eye and 6/36 in left eye. Intraocular pressure was 10 mm Hg in both eyes and both eyes fundus was within normal limitsSF. IOL gives favorable visual outcome in a situation of inadequate capsular support or zonulolysis. This technique allows stable placement of PC IOLs in cases of post-operative and post trauma aphakic eyes without adequate capsular support.
