SELECTED ANTHROPOMETRIC PARAMETERS OF YOUNG TENNIS PLAYERS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE USEFULNESS FOR THIS SPORTS DISCIPLINE AND MOTOR ORGAN CONTUSION PROPHYLAXIS
Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2008, Vol 24, Issue 5
Abstract
Background. Somatic constitution is important for athlete performance and may determine the occurrence of overload, dysfunction and acute injuries of the motor organ. The goal of this paper is to present morphological characteristics of youth tennis players, as compared to their non-sport peers.Material and methods. The sample included 24 youth tennis players (6 girls and 18 boys) aged 7-14. Eight anthropometric features were subjected to analysis. The studied features were next normalized according to the age group and gender, compared to the non-training children.Results/Conclusions. The majority of youth tennis players are generally taller and have long lower limbs. They are also characterized by a lower amount of adipose tissue. In most of the studied players, higher values were found of arm circumference, compared to their non-sport peers.
