Selected problems of succession in family businesses

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to introduce the issue of succession, through the discussion of selected issues. Succession in family businesses is important because the market economy is largely based on the functioning of family businesses. Article draws attention to the recipients, the need for development of family business, is to form the organization in such a way that it can function when the President will no longer be present in the structures. Much of the article is devoted to the well argumentation in favor of early planning and im-plementation process of succession. The issue that was also affected is the problem of approach to forward its position to the former President. Review of po-tential successors and possible generational conflicts were the subject of further consideration. Also made an attempt to determine the timing and implementation of the succession process successor in the management of the company. The last part of the article is to present the process of transfer of power by the current president, and selecting and preparing for his role as successor. For this purpose, the author cites a number of potential scenarios related to the departure of the former President of the company. The article is the development of a practical and didactic character of subject. This is creation of an awareness of the issue of succession in family businesses. Article subject is a view of development the actual and dangerous practices which are actual in Poland market now. The experience of other countries shows that only 50% of family businesses passed the first succession without changing the form of ownership, and only 15% can handle the transfer of the third generation.
