Abstract
This paper focuses on the semantic peculiarities of the names of optical natural phenomena in English, German, Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian. The quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the lexemes under consideration have been singled out, main types of metonymic and metaphoric transfers are provided.
