SEMIOTIC THEORY IN LITERATURE STUDIES

Abstract
The article attempts to determine different approaches to semiotic theory in terms of the analysis of literary texts including controversial views, which are natural for research works. It focuses on the key scientific discourses of semiotic theory in literature studies of U. Eco, Y. Lotman, A. Greimas, R. Bart, Y. Kristeva, and others. It considers categories “sign”, “meaning”, “sense” as literary definitions with reference to semiotic tradition.
