Sentinel Lymph Node Imaging and Biopsy in Breast Cancer
Journal Title: Nükleer Tıp Seminerleri - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
The histological status of axillary lymph nodes is an important prognostic factor in patients receiving surgery for breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy provides staging information to guide adjuvant therapy and potentially local control of axillary disease. The lymphatic mapping technique and sentinel lymph node biopsy is the reference standard for staging the axilla in clinically lymph node negative early breast cancer patients. Sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node of the tumor’s lymphatic drainage. Sentinel lymph node biopsy is a minimal invasive procedure which is fast, safe and it reduces the morbidity of axillary surgery. The purpose of this review to investigate the sentinel lymph node imaging and biopsy in breast cancer.
