Sexual maturation effect on physical fitness in girls: a longitudinal study
Journal Title: Biology of Sport - Year 2010, Vol 27, Issue 1
Abstract
The purpose of the present longitudinal study was to find associations between sexual maturation dynamics and improvement in performance of fitness tests. 34 11- to 13- year-old girls performed standing long jump, 20 m dash, shuttle run 4 x is related to 9 m, trunk forward flexion, squats in 30 s, sit-ups in 30 s, and Cooper 12-min running test at the beginning of observation, a year later, and two years later. Sexual maturation was assessed with the aid of breast development stages. When during a year girls transferred from the sexual maturation stage 2 to the stage 3, standing long jump results improved significantly. Transfer from the stage 4 to the stage 5 associated with the improvement of the trunk forward flexion.

EFFECTS OF DOWNHILL AND UPHILL EXERCISES OF EQUIVALENT SUBMAXIMAL INTENSITIES ON SELECTED BLOOD CYTOKINE LEVELS AND BLOOD CREATINE KINASE ACTIVITY
The study was aimed at comparing the effects of concentric (CONC) and eccentric (ECC) exercises of equivalent (in terms of relative work load expressed as a percentage of VO2max) moderate intensity on selected blood cyto...
Laterality of the lower limbs and carving turns
The aim of this study is to discover whether the lateral preference of the lower limbs influences the execution of successive carving turns or not. Six skilled skiers (men, right lower limb preference, age 26.5±1.61 year...
The effect of weight loss on serum concentrations of nitric oxide induced by short - term exercise in obese women
Objective: The aim of present study was to examine the effect of weight loss comprising regular moderate physical activity on resting serum concentrations of nitric oxide metabolites and exercise induced NO release. Mate...

TRAINING-INDUCED CHANGES IN DRAG-FLICK TECHNIQUE IN FEMALE FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS
The penalty corner is one of the most important goal plays in field hockey. The drag-flick is used less by women than men in a penalty corner. The aim of this study was to describe training-induced changes in the drag-fl...
