Short Term Follow Up Study Of Clinico-Radiological Outcome Of Lumbosacral Spondylolisthesis

Abstract

Objectives: Since spondylolisthesis is one of the most serious treatable causes of backache and literature does not support any clearcut treatment protocol, this study aims at studying clinically and radiologically the progression and treatment response of spondylolisthesis. Materials and Methods: 30 patients were included in the study with clinically and radiologically diagnosed lumbosacral spondylolisthesis. Each patient was evaluated clinically and radiologically pre-treatment or preoperatively and followed up over a mean follow up period of 3.5 years. Results were analysed in both conservatively treated and operated patients. Results: There were 11(36.6%) male and 19(63.33%) female patients. Female patients had higher slip angle and more severe disease. 9 (30%) cases were operated and 21(70%) were managed conservatively. At 8 weeks of follow up, there were 2(6.66%) poor, 26(86.66%) fair and 2(6.66%) good results. At 1 year follow up there were 3(10%) excellent, 15(50%) good, 10(30%) fair and 2(6.66%) poor outcomes. Conclusion: Low grade spondylolisthesis can be managed conservatively with good results. However they need to be observed for further slip and progression. High grade spondylolisthesis is associated with neurological complications and needs to be operated for better results.
