Sight-singing in the process of musical ear training – didactic and artistic dimensions of a compositional project

Journal Title: "Konteksty Kształcenia Muzycznego" - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Sight-singing plays an important role in ear training of a prospective professional musician and teacher of various music disciplines. Modern ear-training methodology especially emphasizes the need for integrating theoretical knowledge with musical practice and highlights its artistic aspect, e.g. through grounding the whole didactic process on the compositional output from different epochs, contemporary music in particular. The article presents a compositional project, initiated in 2014, aimed at ear-training didactics. As a result of it, two collections of miniatures for sight-reading are to be created. What is more, music academy students are expected to be fostered in their active studies on native artistic output in order to familiarize themselves with a contemporary composer’s techniques during collective music-making. Selected exercises and pieces, realized within part I of the project, are presented and described in the publication.
