SILICONE ELASTOMERS WITH IMPROVED HYDROPHOBICITY OBTAINED FROM ETCHED SILICON AND DURALUMIN TEMPLATES

Abstract
Hydrophobicity of elastomeric silicone rubber depends strongly on its surface properties. The paper presents results of experimental works aimed at obtaining silicone rubber displaying superhydrophobic effect. Direct replica method was used for sample manufacturing while anisotropic etched silicon as well as electro-discharge machined duralumin substrates were employed as negative templates. Surface microtopography, its roughness as well as water static contact angle and run-off angle were characterized for obtained silicone rubber specimens.
