SIMILE IN UKRAINIAN LITERARY TEXT AND WAYS OF ITS RENDERING IN ENGLISH
Journal Title: ІНОЗЕМНА ФІЛОЛОГІЯ - Year 2014, Vol 127, Issue 2
Abstract
The article focuses on the problem of lingual and cultural peculiarities of simile with a flora component (hyperonym flower, flora names rose, poppy) in Ukrainian-English opposition. The lingual-and-cultural load of simile based on using names of flowers is a thankful source of getting the target reader acquainted with other nations’ worldview. The ethnic-and-lingual semantics of flora names as elements of the simile construction is exposed in the process of translating similes with national-and-cultural images and symbols. This is the reason for loan and descriptive ways of rendering to be considered the best ways to preserve the ethnic-and-cultural load of the image.
