SIMULTANEOUS SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF MONTELUKAST SODIUM AND BAMBUTEROL HYDROCHLORIDE IN TABLETS

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Pharmacy (IRJP) - Year 2011, Vol 2, Issue 8

Abstract

The present manuscript describe simple, sensitive, rapid, accurate, precise and economical first derivative spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of montelukast sodium and bambuterol hydrochloride in combined tablet dosage form. The derivative spectrophotometric method was based on the determination of both the drugs at their respective zero crossing point (ZCP). The first order derivative spectra was obtained in chloroform and the determinations were made at 241 nm (ZCP of bambuterol hydrochloride) for montelukast sodium and 258.4 nm (ZCP of montelukast sodium) for bambuterol hydrochloride. The linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 10-60 μg/ml for montelukast sodium and 10-80 μg/ml for bambuterol hydrochloride. The mean recovery was 100.1 ± 1.25 and 99.70 ± 1.38 for montelukast sodium and bambuterol hydrochloride, respectively. The method was found to be simple, sensitive, accurate and precise and was applicable for the simultaneous determination of montelukast sodium and bambuterol hydrochloride in pharmaceutical tablet dosage form. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies.
