Sjőgren’s Syndrome – current concepts on etiology, pathogenesis, course of disease and therapeutic options

Abstract
Sjőgren’s syndrome is one of the most common chronic autoimmune diseases, and is characterized by progressive degeneration of numerous exocrine glands, in the fist instance a salivary and lacrimal glands, and affecting also many tissues and organ systems in the body. Aim of this study was to present, on a base of current literature, the current review of etiology, pathogenesis, diversity of clinical picture and course of disease, pointing out a polyautoimmunity of Sjőgren’s syndrome. The review of actual therapeutic options as well as a future perspective In this matter was discussed. The criteria of current primary and secondary Sjőgren’s syndrome classifiation was presented. The proper, early diagnosis, with taking into account an adverse prognostic factors, may inflence the treatment plans, inflencing the course of disease.
