slugChromatographic Separation of Phenolic Compounds on Stannic Oxide Layers: Determination of Salicylic acid in Drug Samples

Abstract

Thin layer chromatography of twenty three pharmaceutically important phenolic compounds has been performed on thin layers of stannic oxide ion-exchanger in different aqueous, non-aqueous and mixed solvent systems. A number of useful binary and ternary separations have been achieved on these layers. Resorcinol have been separated selectively from a synthetic mixture of seven commonly used phenols. The method has been utilized for the quantitative separation of salicylic acid from six different multicomponent drug samples.
