SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL SERVICE OF VF VVOINO-YASENETSKY (SUNT LUKI)

Abstract

V. F. Voyno-Yasenetsky (St. Luke) (1877–1961) was the Confessor, Prelate, the outstanding physician of diverse specification: a surgeon of the widest range — an ophthalmologist, a unique medical theorist, a phenomenal theologian, an interesting and original philosopher, lecturer-orator, etc. The medical students and other people, who heard his speeches, were amazed and delighted. He was the political prisoner who eventually became the laureate of the Stalin (State) Prize of the 1st degree. He was the man who saved lives of the thousands of soldiers during the Patriotic War, and after that he gave medical treatment to people in peaceful time. He was the Orthodox Christian of great will and fearlessness. He was a good family man, the father of four children, who have become remarkable physicians. He was one of the best preachers of the 20th century.
