SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS’ VIEWS ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA SHARES RELATED to HISTORY

Abstract
Social media has a structure that is provided by words of social communication, images, and audio files. Historical images and thoughts often take place in the social media and reach many people. Today, the historical information in social media and visuals are attracting attention. It is a debate about whether these sharings are explored in a curious way or consciously, or defended directly or unconsciously.In this study it is aimed to determine social studies teachers’ views on social media shares related history. The research was conducted in accordance with the phenomenological pattern of qualitative research methods. The study group was identified in accordance with the easy accessibility sample. 20 social studies teachers working in the province of Sakarya formed the study group. The structured form developed by the researchers is the data collection tool of the research. The data were subjected to descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it has been seen that the social studies teachers are following the social media shares related history and pay attention to the fact that these shares are visual-content and up-to-date. The research also reached the conclusion those social studies teachers did not find the shares about history in the social media trustworthy and needed to test the validity so that they did not affect their views about history too much. Finally, it was determined that the shares about history in social media are also on the agenda outside of social media. It has been seen that social studies teachers are not indifferent to missing or wrong information in social media and feel responsible for explaining the right information.
