Abstract

While the importance of women has been mostly ignored throughout the history, women were seen as an important individual in the Ancient Turks. Indeed, women have contributed significantly to the change and development of the society. It is possible to see the effects of this contribution in social and economic fields. In this context, women are seen while taking care of children and allowing the house or as a warrior or a personality that allows the implementation of the ceremony. Moreover, their being given as a pride to the neighboring tribes has had a major impact on providing peace. When we think of steppe women as a helper of her men in social life, in a sense they will be seen as a complementary of men. However, the social roles of men and women have been decided to the extent that is required by their own characters. Because of their physical weakness and mental kindness, while women have mostly been mistreated throughout the history, they were able to find a place in social status for themselves in ancient Turks. Since family was the most important social union in the Ancient Turk society, woman, who constituted the basis of family, was granted a high position. In this sense, woman fulfilled an important duty, to be the only companion of man and the mother of her children. As a result of the value attached to them, they were able to have a say even in the state government. To understand this value better; the activities of a woman in Ancient Turks in management, military, other social areas and economy provide important clues to determine their social status. It can be said that because of their physical weakness and mental delicacy women have been the victims in many different situations throughout history and in Ancient Turks, despite these weaknesses, they were able to take place in the social statuses to the extent that their characters allowed for.
