SOME ANESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS IN UROLOGY PATIENT WITH DOWN SYNDROME – CLINICAL CASE

Abstract
Trisomy 21 is one of the most common chromosomal disorders which is one of the best known in man. For the first time it was described in 1866, by Dr. John Langdon Down. The frequency is 1 in 800 births. The genesis is multifactorial. Patients with Down syndrome have multiple congenital anomalies with different pathophysiology mechanisms. They can affect many of patient’s systems. This presents unique set of anesthetic considerations to anesthesiologists and their teams. The good outcome of anesthesia and surgery of people with Down syndrome, depends on the skillful management during the perioperative period. Patients have many common clinically significant findings. Knowledge about them is recommended in order to choose the best anesthetic considerations and interventions. We present a clinical case of 40 years old man, admitted in urology oncology department in Ruse. The patient was operated twice during his hospital stay, under general anesthesia. We share our experiences in preoperative evaluation, conducting and maintaining anesthesia. We do not report any anesthetic complications during surgery.
