South Asian Regional Security Complex’s stages of formation at the second half of XX – at the early of XXI century

Abstract

The article examines the stages of the formation of the South Asian regional security complex, the chronological boundaries of which are the breakdown of British India and the formation of two leading regional states – India and Pakistan to nowadays. South Asia is characterized by the author as a regional security complex in accordance with B. Buzan’s theory of regional security complexes. The existing interdependence between states’ security in the region has become the basis for identifying the appropriate stages. Security threats, the external impact, the domestic political environment of Pakistan and connection between India and Pakistan are using as determination of such characteristics. The author concluded that certain stages of development of South-Asian regional security complex have transformational changes that depends on the historical past of the region and will have an impact on its future.
