Spatial crime prevention: foreign experience and ways of implementation in Ukraine

Abstract
In the article one of the directions of the strategy of reducing the possibility of committing crimes in the form of spatial prevention is analyzed on the basis of the study of modern foreign experience. Western scientists, whose work allowed to form the theory of spatial prevention are listed. The definition of its concept is given, its features are highlighted. Listed main forms of spatial crime prevention that have technical, organizational, informational or other character, as well as countries where they are predominantly implemented. It was emphasized that measures of spatial prevention are closely related to situational crime prevention as their actions are aimed at complicating the commission of crimes, increasing the riskiness of criminal activity and reducing its profitability. The advantages of this direction of crime prevention include its efficiency, economy and the ability to intensify public-private partnership in this area. The conclusions state that spatial crime prevention is aimed at implementation of the Strategy of development of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine up to 2020, in particular regarding creation of a safe environment for citizens. The considered direction of the strategy of reducing the possibilities of committing crimes is considered very important in view of the formation in Ukraine of the latest model of crime prevention, which would correspond to the best examples of developed countries in this area.
