STABILITY / INSTABILITY OF THE REPRESENTANTS OF THE PHONEME /V/ IN THE BULGARIAN DIALECT CONTINUUM

Abstract

The study of the systematic description of the phonetic level of the Zorya dialect has not been done. The absence of the research works in this field makes the main goal of the article – to clarify the structural features of the Bulgarian resettlement dialect of the mixed type as a result of interaction with other Bulgarian dialects and nonBalkan environment. The objective of the work is to carry out a systematic research of the dialect on the phonetic level and to create a data of dialect texts performed in the Zorya dialect. The subject of the analysis is the phonetic structure of the dialect present in the village Zorya, the conditions of forming and directions of the transformation of the mixed dialect. The method of quantitative analysis and text behavior of linguistic units are used. The article provides the results of the phonetic description of the Bulgarian resettlement dialect of the mixed type which was first conducted. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the phoneme /v/, its stability / instability. The research states that the phoneme /V/ in the history of the Bulgarian language has undergone a reduction in the compound [bv], [dv], [tv] and an enhance of the use of these compounds. The presence of [v] in a range of positions is typical for the most Balkan dialects, and the absence – for Mizian dialects. In Mizian dialects the consonant [v] is often replaced by [h] and [f]. In Thracian dialects [v] is mainly voiced consonant, but in some dialects is pronounced as bilabial and becomes (in some dialects constantly, while in others – inconstantly) a glide [w], [ỹ]. The functioning of the phoneme / v / in Zorya dialect based on 20 written texts is studied. The author points out that the consonant [v] is kept in its etymological place in 968 forms of a word (the whole amount of the forms of a word is 1345), secondary [v] presents in 157 cases and is missed in 220 forms of a word. The conducted research proves that the representant of the phoneme /v/ in the Zorya dialect is labiodental consonant [ў], like in the Bulgarian literary language,; and the bilabial consonant [w] is isolated (registered only in the form bъchwata). Unlike other eastern Bulgarian dialects bilabial consonant [w] is not specific for the Zorya dialect.
