Standardization of clinical laboratory data and reference intervals
Journal Title: Journal of Analytical Bio-Science - Year 2011, Vol 34, Issue 3
Abstract
For clinical laboratory data to be utilized in the diagnosis and prevention of disease, their reliability must be verified. To ensure the reliability of routine test data in all laboratories, it is necessary for it to be consistent with the traceability chain for each constituent, and for the values to be transferred from that measurement system appropriately. The nationwide standardization of measurement data by the utilization of both reference and control materials will enable us to ensure the widespread and long-term reliability of clinical laboratory data. To achieve this system-based consistency, the laboratories must verify the accuracy of test data, so that the reference interval of laboratory data for disease screening can be shared by different institutes. Resarding the improved reliability of measurement values, two new reference-intervals, studies have beenpublished; one by the Japanese Association of Medical Technologists, which establishes the reference intervals that can be shared by all clinical laboratories, and another that addresses the research results of differences between areas in Asian districts regarding the reference values of clinical tests. Thus, the latest knowledge about the standardization of both reference intervals and measurement values will be will be widely disseminated.

Albumin-like reactivity of amphoteric and cationic surfactants toward BCG color reagents
Bromocresol Green (BCG) dyes exist as an equal mixture of undissociated (λmax 450 nm) and dissociated (λmax 620 nm) dye forms in acid solutions. In BCG color reagents for measuring serum albumin, color development of th...
Consideration of reactivity of human, bovine and egg albumins in the dye-binding method and a standard material for determining the human serum albumin
A protein error of three sulfonephthalein pH indicators, bromophenol blue (BPB), bromocresol green (BCG) and bromocresol purple (BCP) by human, bovine and egg albumins (HSA, BSA, EGA) was investigated in order to find a...
Microheterogeneity of urinary albumin
To date, various forms of urinary albumin resulting from post-translational modifications such as fragments, decreased immuno-reactivity, intermolecular links between disulfide bonds, and oxidation have been reported. Th...
A study on simultaneous measurement method for both platelets and fragmented red cells using flow-cytometric immunoplatelet count
Simultaneous measurement of both platelets and fragmented red cells (FRCs) using the flow-cytometric immunoplatelet (CD41/CD61) count was attempted. FRCs were prepared artificially by heating. The ICSH/ISLH immunoplatele...
An overview of ISO 15189 accreditation, and the impact on and the efforts exerted toward its maintenance after accreditation
The quality and safety of medical care is an important issue in today's world, where the clinical laboratory must specifically demonstrate its quality and capability to both clinicians and patients. To do so, their evalu...
