State aid as a source of competitiveness growth of small and medium-sized enterprises

Abstract
The subject for article analysis came about as a consequence of EU Member States prioritising state aid reform in line with the Lisbon Agenda and „Europa 2020” Strategy, which were set out to create an environment facilitating entrepreneurship. The deliberations were supposed to prove privileged position of small and medium enterprises compared to large businesses thus giving them a different treatment when it came to granting state aid. In other words, special treatment of SMEs across the economic system should give grounds to develop preferential – compared to large businesses – rules for granting state aid, which would be tailor made for small and medium enterprises.
