STATE OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS REGARDING THE REQUIREMENTS TO THE FORMATION OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS’ LINGUOCULTURAL COMPETENCE

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study aimed at determining the state of educational materials regarding the requirements to the formation of the primary school pupils’ linguocultural (linguistic and cultural) competence at the present stage of the reform taking place within the educational system of Ukraine. The current syllabi in the framework of teaching foreign languages, Chinese in particular, to primary school pupils in terms of forming their linguistic and cultural competence are analysed in the article; the reformation stages within Ukraine’s educational space are conventionally defined and characterized (stage I – preparatory-adaptive (from 2015 to 2017/18 academic years); stage II – transitional (2017/18 academic year); stage III – main (after 2017/18 academic year). Some primary school curricula depending on the lan- guage of study at general secondary schools are analysed: 1) the Ukrainian language of study; 2) the language of the indigenous people, national minority; 3) specialized schools with advanced study of foreign languages; the content of the methodical support on teaching the Chinese language to primary school pupils is studied. There have been made these conclusions: 1. The typical innovative educational programs on “lingua-cross-cultural” aspects of teaching Chinese to junior schoolchildren of secondary education institutions have not been developed. 2. There is a need for a deep study of the problems, as follows: methodical principles facilitating the formation of linguistic and cultural competence of primary school pupils through the use of the Chinese literary works; selection prin- ciples of linguistic material contributing into the formation of the designated competence. 3. The nature and structure of the phenomenon “linguocultural competence of primary school pupils studying at secondary schools” have not been clarified; the means of forming linguocultural competence of primary school pupils who study at secondary schools have not been identified; no systems of exercises which contribute into the formation of linguocultural competence of primary school pupils who study at secondary schools by means of the Chinese literary works against the background of Ukraine’s national culture have ever been developed. 4. There is a lack linguocultural components within general outcomes of foreign language education, particularly in the context of learning Chinese. The perspectives of the further research are seen in the study of the formation levels of primary school pupils’ linguis- tic and cultural competence in terms of diagnosing the real level of their theoretical and practical preparedness according to specific criteria and indicators, that is, to develop the corresponding tasks, to specify the criteria, indicators and for- mation levels of primary school pupils’ linguistic and cultural competence through the use of the Chinese literary works.
