Journal Title: Матеріали і дослідження з археології Прикарпаття і Волині - Year 2016, Vol 20, Issue
Abstract
Results of the restoration of the stone cross, which is located in Zvenyhorod (Pustomyty district, L’viv region) on the wayside of the road towards Sholomyya are presented at the article. Under the layers of lime whitewash carved inscriptions made by Cyrillic letters were discovered. Abbreviations are decrypted. During the comparative analysis hypothesis about the original appearance of the cross is made. Its installation is attributed to XIV-XV centuries and was caused by designation of the location of destroyed church and monastery of the Early Middle Ages. Examination of technical features of writing indicates the reusing of the cross in Modern Era (1744), when from the smallholding (on which an old cemetery turned) it was moved to the wayside of the road. Researching of the stone cross from Goyeva Gora is important for study of topography of the princely capital, as well as local artistic and religious traditions on the territory of Zvenyhorod in Early Modern Age.
