STRATEGIC THINKING ABOUT FUTURE SECURITY

Journal Title: Zeszyty Naukowe Akademii Sztuki Wojennej - Year 2014, Vol 2014, Issue 97

Abstract

Thinking about the future of every organisation, security most of all, and about choosing ways of development, not only about existence (surviving), should be an inherent attribute of the functioning of each of them. What the future will really be, how security will evolve, how will it be shaped and also created, could aspects of possible crises (conflicts) be comparable not only to those from the past but also from current times - sadly, or maybe happily, no one knows, although many theoreticians (scientists and futurists) have been trying to find answers to these and many more questions, identifying themselves with, among other things, the cyclic and linear theory of the history of civilisation and nations. However, this is a consequence of the fact that virtually no phenomenon (events, processes) is repeated in the same manner, thus already becoming, unpredictable from definition only. So, does this relieve all kinds of organisations from thinking about what is yet to occur, what can happen, not today, but in the future, both the proximal and that further ahead? Is anticipating reality completely irrational? Answers to questions about how to function, how to efficiently and effectively operate under the conditions of change, happening not only in the current but, most of all, the future forecast world to be able to feel and develop safely, what the context may be, or rather the kinds of possible political-military-social crises (conflicts?), must, therefore, be key questions for any organisation, and especially for its members (‘creators’, ‘participants’). This is the sense of strategic studies on future security.
