STRATEGIES OF NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE POLITENESS IN THE ENGLISH NOVEL

Abstract
The given article presents the survey of positive and negative politeness strategies which are realized by means of greeting and vocative speech acts. Pragmatic functioning of strategies for every type of politeness is illustrated with dialogues chosen from the English novel. The linguistic realization of strategies and tactics is considered to be the verbal behavior of people pursuing certain illocutionary aims.
