Student’s appraisal of the university research training: a preliminary study.

Abstract

To identify the appreciation of the medical student on the training they receive from their university and the level it has on the research process, a study was conducted on 40 students attending a training course in scientific writing, who was a structured survey and anonymous. Only 30% of students assessed as good or very good training from the university in terms of research methodology and information search, but more than 60% refer a poor or no training in the process of publishing and critical reading. Students refer to a higher level of knowledge that what gives them the university in critical reading, literature, writing articles and publishing process (p <0.05). The majority (81.2%) identified as the main constraint to the publication of lack of time and teachers support. In conclusion, there is a poor training from universities in critical reading and publishing process.
