STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS – EDUCATIONAL INTEGRATION AS A COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT PROCESS

Journal Title: Szkoła Specjalna - Year 2013, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

The article takes up the issues connected with the education of students with special educational needs in the present education system in Poland. It points to the activities that aim at increasing widespread availability of mainstream schools for students with disabilities. It analyzes integrated/inclusive education as a process of schooling shared by students with special educational needs and their nondisabled peers in conditions that ensure them both a feeling of being a member of the school community, and necessary supports (technical, methodological, psychosocial and organizational supports). It shows the possibility of analyzing an educational situation in terms of the formulated educatio-nal patterns. It emphasizes that today what brings together persons with disabilities and nondisabled ones is important, also in education, not what separates them. The article ta-kes up an important issue concerning a new specialization in training for teachers to work with students with special educational needs – it makes a demand that the profession of a special educator should be included in the classification of professions.
