Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pathology - Year 2019, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
Background: The changing trend of exposure to various carcinogenic elements and other factors have caused a significant change in the incidence of cancers. Blood cancers though have typical presenting symptoms but sometimes present with atypical symptoms which can be initially missed by clinicians for other illnesses. This study aims to find prevalence of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia(CML) and other leukemias in outdoor patients who present to a tertiary care hospital. Material: This is a retrospective study in the outdoor patients who reported at G.G.G Hospital during the study duration and had complete blood counts (CBC) reports and peripheral smear (PS) findings suggesting of Chronic Myeloid leukemia(CML). Result: Out of all the patients who came to the hospital for outdoor consultation, total of 67 cases had leukemia. In this 29 cases were reported of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) (43.28%), 15 cases were of Acute Myeloid Leukemia(AML) (22.38%) , 14 cases were Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia(ALL) (20.89%) and 9 cases were of Chronic Lymphoblastic Leukemia (CLL) (13.42%). Conclusion: In our hospital it was found that prevalence of CML was maximum among all the leukemias diagnosed
