Study of the aerodynamic forces evaluation methods
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2011, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
This paper reviews some of the different formulations of the force exerted on a submerged body by the fluid flowing around it. The study is particularly focused on identifying the most appropriate formulations and their inherent assumptions and experimental conditions that fit the current experimental techniques. Several force formulations are derived using different assumptions such as finite and infinite domain, simple and double connected domains. The aim was to obtain formulations that can benefit from the data gathered through the particle image velocimetry method, more explicitly the velocity field around the body and its derivatives. The equations were afterwards discussed in terms of their exposure to error magnification due to the limitations of the experimental method and recommendations were made for appropriate situations in which different formulations should be used. In conclusion, all different force formulations are valid and can be used with the Particle Image Velocimetry data but the accuracy of each outcome depends on the problem definition. As a future objective, experimental work should be performed and test the different equations for different flow conditions, steady, unsteady, quasi-steady, and also for different domain ranges.

The flow of an incompressible electroconductive fluid past a thin airfoil. The parabolic profile
We study the two-dimensional steady flow of an ideal incompressible perfectly conducting fluid past an insulating thin parabolic airfoil. We consider the linearized Euler and Maxwell equations and Ohm's law. We use the i...
Aircraft noise footprint for Bucharest – Sophia flights
Studies of impact noise have traditionally focused on landing and takeoff procedures in the airports vicinity. Beside these studies, en-route noise is considered an issue when we talk about noise in natural reservation o...
Attitude Control Synthesis for Small Satellites Using Gradient Method. Part I - Nonlinear Equations
The paper presents some aspects for synthesis of small satellites attitude control. The satellite nonlinear model presented here will be with six degrees of freedom. After movement equation linearization the stability an...
Flutter Analysis of a Morphing Wing Technology Demonstrator: Numerical Simulation and Wind Tunnel Testinga
As part of a morphing wing technology project, the flutter analysis of two finite element models and the experimental results of a morphing wing demonstrator equipped with aileron are presented. The finite element models...
