SUGARS, FOOD AND HEALTH

Abstract
The current paper aims to present a modern classification of sugars, with an appropriate specific terminology, along with illustrations of examples of regulating the intake of sugars, including health effects and consequences; recommendations and policies. The main food sugars (mono- and disaccharide carbohydrates) and their sources, benefits and disadvantages at consumption are also presented.
