Suicide in the Elderly : A Clinical Review

Abstract
Suicide in the elderly is a serious clinical problem that remains neglected and under appreciated. There is a need for clinicians to recognize and ask geriatric patients in their care about suicidal ideations and suicidal behavior. The following review is a clinical review that looks at suicide in the elderly from a clinical perspective. The various risk factors of suicide in the elderly are described and treatments and preventive strategies are discussed along with the community based interventions needed for the same.
