Abstract

Ancient Mesopotamians, as in most of ancient societies, believed existence of soul and continuation of life in another world after death. When a person died, in order to send the spirit of the death to the netherworld, some funerary rituals were being performed. In this study, it is emphasized that where the location of the netherworld. In order to find an answer to this question, Sumerian sources which inform about location of the netherworld will be studied and scholars’ thoughts about the subject will be revised.
