SURFACE WATER CIRCULATION IN THE GULF OF GDANSK DURING THE POLRODEX '96 EXPERIMENT AS SEEN FROM THE SATELLITE LEVEL
Journal Title: Biuletyn Instytutu Morskiego - Year 1997, Vol 24, Issue 1
Abstract
The MCC (Maximum Cross Correlation) method modified with checking of divergence less was used to calculate the surface flow field in the Gulf of Gdansk. The method enables one to use the surface distribution of any conservative parameter obtained from the satellite level at least twice with some hours time shift. The brightness temperature in channel 4 of the AVHRR taken 10 times between 6'h and 9'h of August 1996 on the board of NOAA 12 and 14 satellites has been used as the input data. The characteristic features of the sea surface temperature distribution taken from the satellite level during the POLRODEX '96 experiment are discussed. The results of surface flow distribution obtained with the use of proposed method are compared with the results of HIROMB model and field observation of drifting rhodamine spill.
