Survey-based assessment of removable denture hygiene

Abstract

Introduction. Lack of oral hygiene, leading to the growth of denture plate and dental plaque, as well as the structure of acrylic, promoting the ocumulation of microorganisms and the development of fungal infection are the dominant factors in the occurrence of denture stomatitis.Aim of the study. To obtain information about oral hygiene habits of patients wearing removable dentures.Material and method. Using a questionnaire developed especially for this study 73 patients (37 women and 36 men; aged 40−80 years), wearingremovable restorations were examined.Results. The relationship was found between oral hygiene habits, age and gender of the patients wearing prosthesis. Younger patients oftenuse Corega cleansing tablets and denture cleaners, while older ones often use toothpaste. Subjects below 60 years of age often see dentists to control their prosthesis.Conclusion. Upon final denture delivery dentists should pay particular attention to instructions on oral hygiene and denture care products.
