Journal Title: MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
Even with the proliferation of social responsibility commitment by leaders of competitive organizations, HR remains challenged to forge an identity that would enable practitioners to add value to the sustainability agenda. It is imperative to examine how HR’s role as a boundary spanner can be a value-added strategy to provide organizations with a competitive advantage. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the limited body of literature regarding the role of HR in sustainability innovation. This work proposes that HR establish its presence within the innovative sphere by collaborating with teams that are strategically aligned with operations, a value creation function. Upon reviewing literature that augments the discourse on innovation, project teams, and learning, this work assumes that HR’s boundary spanning role can facilitate project teams toward continuous sustainability innovation; hence, legitimizing its existence to organizational strategic undertakings.
