Світова продовольча проблема

Abstract

Food problem is an acute problem of today’s world, though its essence and structure differ drastically for the richest and the poorest countries of the world. But regardless of development level every country is striving to guarantee sufficient rational level of food provision for all social strata of society. About 4/5 of the world population live in developing countries, 1/3 of all food is produced and just over 1/3 of food is consumed. According to the report of Food and Agriculture Organization, Asia and Pacific region, Africa to the south of Sahara, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa are suffering from hunger most of all. One in four children in the world is late in development, one person in three, who died of starvation, is a child, 65 children in a thousand die before 5 years of age because of hunger. There are many causes of hunger, and very often they are intertwined factors: poverty, lack of investment in agriculture, geographical location of a population, historical, political, economic conditions, world transport and connection, world economy and trade, war conflicts, unstable markets. Many countries, participating in the World Food Programme of UNO have been already solving the problem of hunger, using proved and reliable strategies: food aid in emergency situations, food for children under two years old, school meal, support of small farms and private farmers, food vouchers. There are also organizations for struggle against hunger: Food and Agriculture Organization, UNESCO, United Nations Children’s Fund, World Food Program. To struggle against hunger it is necessary to develop agriculture of the poorest countries and increase investments into infrastructure of rural areas in these countries. It is essential to consider agriculture as a fundamental part of food security in the world. Hunger can be overcome by solving problems that cause it and by development of the poorest countries.
