Symbolism of women’s image in the novel «Tonka» by Robert Musil

Abstract
The attempt is made to research the theory concerning symbol and symbolism of artistic image. The ways of symbolic woman’s image are interpreted in the textual structure of «Tonka» by Robert Muzil from the series «Three women». The examples of symbolizing of metaphoric images, connected with woman’s image, are given in German. The attention is focused on the role and function of symbols in image building made by Austrian writer in the context of short ¿ ction. The emphasis is made on their meanings and their roles in the texts as the key points of the composition.
