Techniques executed by Japanese competitors were assessed on the basis of three criteria which enabled to establish the order of dominant throws and holds. Effective attacks in subsequent techniques, directions and ways of their execution were determined by index of efficiency attack – Sa.Results. 39 judo techniques of different kinds classified by Kodokan Judo in the open category were used effectively during Japanese Championship. The most dominant techniques used by Japanese judokas were throws: inner thigh throw, major inner reap, minor outer hook, and holds: side four-corner hold and modified scarf hold. In the group of throws foot technique was significantly effective. From the group of holds most effective was pinning. Asymmetrical advantage of the left side body effectiveness characterized fights of Japanese competitors. Conclusions. Japanese judokas are characterized by standard elements of their tactical – technical training such as dominant foot throws and holds, and high effectiveness of throws with the majority of the left side body throws.
