Teaching English in Primary Schools: Necessity, Goals & Skills Priority

Abstract
Language Education is currently one of the keyconcerns of the educational systems of most Asian countries. The thrust of the present project is to characterize the goals, skills priority and the necessity of teaching English at primary schools in Iran. It was done by means of descriptive and survey method in 2014. The statistical population consisted of teachers and university professors of teaching English in Tehran city in which available samples were selected(93). To collect data, the researchers developed a 32-item questionnaire seeking information about the participants’ views and then modified it repeatedly using Delphi method. According to the findings of the research study, most of the experts believed that teaching English at primary school is essential and specified some goals for developing a curriculum with the English education. The study also offers some insights for the implementation process.
