TEACHING FUTURE PSYCHOLOGISTS DISCUSSING PROFESSIONAL PROBLEMS IN ENGLISH

Abstract

The article gives a short review of scientific research dealing with teaching future psychologists discussing professional problems in English. The process of teaching how to discuss problems has been developed. Discussing problems takes place in the classroom and is possible through professional role-plays. Discussing problems is based on the specially prepared communicative situations. Great attention is paid to different types of communicative situations which have to be created for a professional role-play. The three stages of teaching future psychologists discussing professional problems in English have been specified. The teacher’s and students’ goals on each stage have been defined. The importance of the preparation for the professional role play has been underlined. The necessity of taking into account the peculiarities of cross-cultural communication while discussing professional problems with foreigners has been indicated. As the result, we suggest the definitions of verbal and non-verbal components of lifestyle communicative behavioural patterns. The verbal and non-verbal components of lifestyle communicative behavioural patterns in Great Britain and the USA have been compared with those in Ukraine. The methodological recommendations on the application of the organized professional role-play have been given. The perspectives of future scientific investigations have been indicated.
