Journal Title: Zeszyty Naukowe Wydziału Zamiejscowego w Chorzowie Wyższej Szkoły Bankowej w Poznaniu - Year 2016, Vol 18, Issue
Abstract
The paper is devoted the issue of how technological change in banking services impacting competition in the market. As far research method is concerned, the paper relies on a review of literature focusing on the effects of such factors as e-banking, economies of scale increasing the size of banks, electronic payment systems, or credit reference agencies, on the competitive structure of the banking services market. The competitive behaviors of banks do not necessarily depend on the number, or concentration, of suppliers in the market. Important determinants of banks’ competitive behaviors are technology factors affecting competition, while the type of competition prevalent in a market is conditional on technological progress in a specific area (hence e.g. a significant impact made by the ongoing growth of the FinTech industry).
