Journal Title: Journal of Disability Management and Rehabilitation - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 1

Abstract

In the Bhagwad Gita, there is a concept of Swabhaava equivalent to temperament and is defined as “the pure quality of the spirit in its inherent power of conscious will, and in its characteristic force of action.” (p.263) (Aurobindo,1942). The concept of temperament has by now been widely recognized as one of the basic concepts of the psychology and as determinant of behavioral functioning. Moreover, temperamental differences influence how children behave towards their environment. This article provides a review of concepts of temperament and its dimensions. It also discusses temperamental vulnerability, measurements of temperament and its clinical implications.
