TENDENCIES AND DIRECTIVITY OF THE ONGOING SOIL FORMATION AND SOIL EVOLUTION ON THE ZMIINY ISLAND

Abstract

This research has its aim in uncovering the tendencies and directivity of the Zmiiny island soil formation and soil evolution. The subject of this research embraces the ongoing processes of the soil formation and development, as well as the tendencies and directivity of the soil alterations in the different natural and ecological conditions of the island. A scope of the soil genesis and comparative geographic methods have been applied to meet the declared aims. Thus, the research includes results of the preceding 2010-2014 analyses of the natural conditions, factors and processes of the soil formation on the island, as well as assessment of the constitution of the soil profiles, their chemical composition and specifications in accordance to the the ornithological diversity and humidity levels. Two possible scenarios for the ongoing processes have been outlined. The first or ecologically optimistic relies upon the preservation of the existing steppe vegetation layer and further intensification of the soil– and black soil formation. The second or ecologically threatening is possible under the conditions of constantly deteriorating natural environment. The major objectives for the rational usage and preservation of the unique steppe vegetation and isle soils have been discussed.
