Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 44

Abstract

Tripoli Warand Balkan Wars greatly affected banditry riots in western Anatolia, especially the activities carried out by gangs of Greeks, by means of quality and quantity. The main reason for this can besaid that the islands occupied in the war became a sheltered base for Greek gangs. During this period, Greece's support and encouragement for the purposes of the Greek gangs also provided them to be politicized quickly in western Anatolia. The support of Allied forces during First World War years has increased the activities of Greek gangs further. It can be said that banditry incidents threatened the lives and property of people living in Western Anatolia, especially near the settlements on the coast. The Ottoman Empire could not prevent banditry although administrative and military measures have been received against the activities of of Greek gangs.
