The analysis of speech perception in the new MP3000 speech coding strategy and conventional strategies

Journal Title: Polski Przegląd Otorynolaryngologiczny - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 4

Abstract

The following article includ es the descrip tion of an evaluation of new speech coding strategy based on psych o-acoustic masking model. New strategy stimulate smaller number of channels in comparison of active channel's nu mber. The strategy is based on standard ACE strategy . The difference is the psycho-aco ustic masking model which recognize the mos t im portant compo nents from the audio signal. The study was designed as a prosp ective multi-centre clinic al study in 7 Europe an langua ge areas. 247 patients from 37 Cochlear Impla nt Centers took part into the research. The article includes only results of Warsaw group – it means 10 patients, experienced users of Nucleus implants and Freedom speech processors. The speech perception was tested using monosyllabic test in quiet at 65d BSPL and speech test in noise. The results shows that new strategy has no infl uence on speech perception but signifi cant increase battery lifetime in comp arison w ith standard strategies.
