The analysis of the experience of communication in the foreign language and the development of communicative competence in multicultural society

Abstract
In this paper, the development of communicative competence is analysed. In general, communicative competence is the aim and the content of foreign language teaching and learning. The aim of this paper is to reveal how people, who have successfully socialized abroad, assess the experience of foreign language learning in Lithuania as well as to show the importance of foreign language knowledge for successful socialization in other countries and to investigate the viewpoint of teachers towards the effectiveness of communicative competence development, bearing in mind its problematic aspects which have been highlighted by migrants. The assumption of this paper is that in Lithuania the teaching of the English language is mainly oriented towards the development of linguistic competence (the development of basic lexical and grammatical skills) as well as the passing of the final exam, and such development is insufficient when the need to have knowledge of spoken English or some aspects of multicultural and social behavior occurs. This assumption is confirmed after the analysis of the interviews with migrants and teachers is carried out.
