Obesity is a complex issue involving both physical and metabolic dysfunction. Some obese individuals are spared from the unfavorable metabolic disturbances often seen in that condition. The possible roles of several important adipokines that are studied in this regard are presented in this communication. The importance of such group of obese individuals and other variant such as metabolically obese with normal body weight status and other challenges faced is pointed out both for clinical and research purposes.
