The Assessment of Gamma Radiation Equivalent Dose Rate Levels for the Potential Site of the New Nuclear Power Plant and Interpretation Equals

Journal Title: Jaunųjų mokslininkų darbai - Year 2011, Vol 31, Issue 2

Abstract

Gamma radiation Equivalent Dose Rate in air (EDR) on new the nuclear power plant site was investigated. Building material and backfill soil influencing which influence the level of the equivalent dose rate were evaluated also. Equivalent dose rate of gamma radiation varies from 60 to 130 nSv/h. Geological structure, possible contamination by the previously used INPP site of construction, building material composition and the distribution of territory and other factors of alternative site was analysed as well. The potential site of the EDR NNPP site could lead to cosmic radiation, the previously used IAE pollution, soil and building materials. It was found that cosmic radiation has an effect on the level of the EDR, but its contribution to the whole site in the EDR is the same as a small park area. According to the Radiation Safety Center data at present in Lithuania there are 43 nSv/h EDR. The measured value of the EDR background sites varied from 80 to 112 nSv/h. The measurements were carried out alongside the park.Available data showed that the dominant influence on the non-uniform spatial distribution of gamma radiation equivalent dose rate was caused by natural radioactivity in the backfill soil and building materials. The analysis showed that during the measurements no increases of EDR rates over the background levels were detected and no contamination or radiation sources were discovered on the investigated sites.
